Banner places one of your existing promotional banners directly into the product grid, at a slot number you choose. Rather than sitting above the page where customers scroll straight past it, the banner occupies a card slot inside the results — so it lands in the middle of browsing, exactly where attention already is.
This action lives inside a merchandising rule (a “Strategy”). It doesn’t design the banner — it positions a banner you’ve already built in Promotion.
Before you start — You need at least one promotion banner already created. Sledge must also be active on your theme.
Create the rule
-
Go to Tools → Merchandising → Strategy and click Add Strategies (or open an existing rule).
-
Under Rule settings, enter a Rule name and choose an Activation type — Always active or Set active date. Scheduling is especially handy here: set the window to match your campaign so the banner appears and disappears on its own.

-
Under Surfaces, enable Collection Page (All collections or Specific collection) and/or Search Page & Instant Search. At least one surface is required.
Place your banner
-
Scroll to Strategies and turn on Banner — “Control banner placement per surface and display existing banners even if they are not assigned to that surface.”
-
In the Banner 1 card, choose your banner from the Banner dropdown, then set its Position. As the note says: Position 1 is the very top of the list. Banners default to position 2 — so the banner slots in after the first product rather than pushing it down, which usually reads better.
The red arrows below show a real rule: the banner Banner demostore collection (product card) is placed at position 8, so it lands in the second row of the grid.

-
Click Add banner to place another banner at a different slot. If you have none yet, use Create banner to make one.
-
Click Save and set Status to Enable. Check the live Preview to see where the banner lands.
Good to know — The wording “even if they are not assigned to that surface” matters: placing a banner here overrides the banner’s own surface settings, so it will show in this collection regardless of where the banner was originally scoped.
Result
Done. Your banner now occupies a slot in the product grid on that collection or search page — customers meet your promotion while they browse, and clicking it takes them wherever the banner points.
To check it on your storefront, open the collection and look at the grid: the banner tile sits at the position you set (by default, right after the first product).
Not showing up? Check the rule’s Status is Enable, the collection is listed under Surfaces, and the banner itself is active. If you scheduled the rule, confirm today falls inside the active window. Storefront changes can take about a minute to sync.
